Process serving (the act of delivering court papers to a subject by hand) isn’t always a smooth process. Because the papers need to be delivered in person, there can be some roadblocks. It’s worth considering using a private detective for your process serving needs, as these issues can often be resolved easily with the right experience.

The subject has an irregular schedule

If the subject works unusual hours or they just keep an irregular schedule, it can be tricky to meet them to serve them papers. A private detective is trained in surveillance and understanding a person’s movements, so they’re able to track a subject down much faster, ensuring a more efficient service altogether.

A subject avoids identification

Any regular process server could find the person they’ve been asked to deliver papers to, but be unable to complete the job if the subject refuses to identify themselves. You can’t deliver papers if you don’t know the person, and in many cases subjects will actively avoid stating their name because they are suspicious or they know what’s happening and they don’t want to be served.

A private detective has a number of techniques and tools at their disposal to verify someone’s identity independently, while their years of negotiation experience is valuable in getting them to self-identify too if necessary.

An evasive subject

In the most extreme cases, a subject will be physically evasive and go into hiding to avoid receiving court papers. This is where a good private detective comes into their own, utilising their full skillset and experience to track down the recipient and deliver the papers in a timely manner. No matter how far they may have moved, or how well-hidden they think they are, a good PI knows all the tricks and evidence to help uncover them.
